INDIVIDUAL PSYCHOTHERAPY

MY APPROACH:

I approach therapy from the perspective that our innate beauty, gifts, and our ability to heal come alive in the safety of kind, attuned relationships.

My primary training is in mindfulness-based transpersonal counseling, which I chose because it is based on the Buddhist concepts of basic goodness and brilliant sanity (acknowledgements of our inherent wholeness) while bringing practices, skills, and loving attention to the things that hurt and the things we care about most within ourselves and our lives.

I have an affinity for working with teens and adults experiencing grief/loss, anxiety, chronic illness or pain, and the affects of relational trauma, as well as those who identify as LGBTQIA+, introverted, and/or highly sensitive.

My work is influenced by study in the following modalities:

  • Interpersonal Neurobiology

  • Mindfulness and somatic (body-based) meditative practices

  • Attachment theory

  • Adaptive Information Processing (the theory underpinning EMDR)

  • Gestalt therapy

  • Equine-assisted therapies

  • Forest bathing (Shinrin-yoku) and Ecopsychology

  • Parts work

  • Child-centered play therapy

  • Poetry therapy

  • Dreamwork

I intend to meet each person with awareness of how complex interactions of cultural values and experiences of systemic oppression and privilege create the context in which we have grown up and continue to evolve. I honor that many people have fears about or past negative experiences with therapy, and my commitment is to receptivity and humility as we explore these factors together in ways useful to your healing and embodiment.

WHAT THERAPY CAN OFFER:

Individual therapy is an opportunity to bring all parts of you (your strengths, fears, pain, creativity, relationships, life experiences, sensitivity, anger, tenderness) into a therapeutic relationship that honors you, helps you connect to your body and emotions, and supports your sense of self-friendship and connection.

In therapy, we can:

  • Clarify your strengths and values

  • Explore habitual nervous system reactions and strengthen your ability to access states of being that feel good to you

  • Explore your family lineage and cultural complexities

  • Work with your identity(ies) and sense of connection to community and belonging

  • Engage creatively with your dreams (see Dreamwork page for details), memories, blocks, and goals

  • Tend to the affects of past trauma or ongoing oppression, trauma, and abuse (See more on the Trauma Therapy page)

  • Explore spiritual sources of support and inspiration

  • Experiment with new skills for how you relate to yourself, people you love, communities you are part of, and work that matters to you

  • Sit in kindness and honor whatever arises within you as we work together
